Todd Bates

In case you haven't already heard, Todd Bates recently died. See Brandon Watson's blog for details.  Bates was a contributor to the Cambridge Companion to Duns Scotus and recently published a book on Scotus' theory of universals.

Thank you for the unfortunate information. May he rest in peace.

Would you or Dr. Sullivan recommend the book?

I wouldn't recommend buying it, not at that price. I've flipped through it; it's pretty short, which makes the price even more outrageous. I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. If you want an exposition of what Scotus says on universals, then read Noone's essay in the Cambridge Companion. But if you want engagement with contemporary analytic philosophy in a scotistic vein, then go for it.
